Denham (Shark Bay)

Saturday, July 11, 2015
Denham, Western Australia, Australia
11/7/2015 – 16/7/2015 6 nights – Denham Seaside Tourist Village ($45 p/n)

We again headed south and did a pit stop at Canarvon . We had a wander around town, stocked up on essentials then grabbed a coffee and took in the views of this pretty town.

On the way into Shark Bay we crossed an electric fence. This fence is intended to protect the native animals from feral predators and what is unique about this fence is the pre-recorded barking dog that plays as you cross.

The Shark Bay region is World Heritage listed and is one of the few places in the world that actually satisfies all 4 categories. It has the largest and most diverse Seagrass beds in the world hence having the largest population of Dugongs (estimated at over 10,000). Unfortunately we are still yet to see one of these gorgeous creatures :(

We arrived at small seaside town of Denham early afternoon, set up then spent the next few hours doing washing and cleaning the van. (Boring)

Unfortunately the weather wasn't great for the most part of our stay… cold, wet and windy but managed to visit:
