Having a Bath

Bath, England, United Kingdom
Another beautiful sunny day, and we arrive in Bath. Our B&B, Brock's Guest House is all you could ask for. Located in a Georgian terrace a few doors off the Circus and a short block from the Royal Crescent, the area is lovely. We have a large room overlooking the back garden, with 12 foot ceilings and en-suite bath. However Bath, not our room, is the real attraction. This Georgian city is beautiful, no matter which direction you turn.
We first walked over to see the Royal Crescent and the park it is set on . Next we set of down the hill into Lower Bath and went to see the main attraction - The Roman Baths. Unearthed in the 19th century and partially reconstructed the baths and adjacent museum offer a glimpse into the life of a Roman in Britain 2000 years ago. Because modern street level is several meters higher than in Roman times, much of the tour is underground. A must see for any visitor to this glorious small city.
The baths are located right next to where the Bath Abbey stands. We see so many cathedrals and churches, monasteries and abbeys, yet each seems to bee more impressive than the last. A stand out on this magnificent Gothic church is the carvings running up and down the front portraying angels climbing up and down two ladders that join heaven to earth.
The rest of the day was spent sauntering up and down the streets, enjoying the architecture and the plethora of antique stores. We stopped for a pint at Adventure Bar on George St., a fun pub with a great back garden. We had a spot of rain so we stayed inside. The rain cleared soon enough and we went back to a hotel for a rest before going to supper. This we had at Sally Lunn's The oldest house in Bath dating from the 13th century. the food is hearty but the portions and prices are quite reasonable. All in all a great first day in the Roman City.
