Art Deco Medieval Style?

Today we went on a short journey to the town of Mottingham to see Eltham Palace. This formerly royal palace was the childhood home of Henry VIII. Only the fortifications and great hall exist from this time but a new grand manor was attached in the 1930's. This project, along with the redevelopment of the grounds and gardens, was undertaken by Stephen and Virginia Courtold in the style of the time - Art Deco. The exterior of the "new build" ties in nicely with the Medieval hall, with only the friezes hinting at the art deco grandeur within. The interiors from public rooms, to bedrooms and salons are all in the high style of Deco reminiscent of the grand ocean liners of the time. The palace features a great interactive audio/visual tour and is well worth taking the time to experience.
Before going on our tour we popped over to Leicester Square to pick up tickets for the evening performance of "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night" . This multi Olivier and Tony award winning play about an autistic teen and his interactions within his world is fantastic and we enjoyed it immensely.
