Final checkup at the dental clinic

Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia
Despite another night of broken sleep, I feel like a more solid breakfast this morning. My jaw is starting to feel a little more normal although my face is still a bit puffy. Down to the Husen Café and an order of Roti Canai and a cool Kopi. Tummy full I set off to Sentral to catch the KTM Komuter train to Kuala Lumpur station with the intention of visiting the KL Bird Park, the Butterfly Park and possibly the botanical gardens and planetarium.

Finding my way from the train station and under one of the many highways I come to a cross-roads that has me somewhat confused . I climb the road up the hill and after a few hundred metres find a car park that has a couple of hundred cars in it and a whole bunch of people hanging round.   Turns out its the car park for a STD clinic and as I ask a couple of ladies for directions to the bird park - keeping a safe distance of course - I'm told the best way is back down the hill.   So, down the hill I go only to find a signpost at the bottom - that I had walked past previously - telling me to go back up the hill.   Now its starting to get quite hot and steamy and my shirt is sticking to my back.   Up the hill again and a couple of hundred metres past the clinic is the butterfly park. Pays me 20 ringgits and in me goes.

After spending an hour or so checking out the gorgeous (but very humid) settings and heaps of butterflies - and fish in the ponds and waterfalls - its time to move on.   Given I need to be at the dental clinic by 3pm - and I really feel the need to go back and shower and change - I don't think I have time to go to the bird park .   Perhaps I'll just check out the gardens and the planetarium. Unfortunately, the entrance to the gardens closest to the butterfly park is closed for construction work. It takes me about 20 minutes to walk to the other end and then I find out that the planetarium - and the police museum - are both closed on Mondays.

All those things will have to wait for another day. I stroll back to the train station and catch the train back to KL Sentral and so on to the hotel. Shower and change and then catch a cab to the Utama clinic.   Dr Ahmad is very happy with my condition and is somewhat surprised that there is not more swelling. He is pleased with how clean I have managed to keep the wounds and says that I heal very well for my age. He thought I was only around 45 at first and again asks "are you really almost 60"? We discuss what needs to happen with my return visit early next year and I get a couple of photos with Dr Ahmad and his very capable assistant Yani.

I celebrated with another smoothie and then spend about a half hour looking for a cab . I finally find one but he is not keen on making the trip back to KL Sentral. Apparently he is about to finish and is local to the area that I currently am in. I give me him the puppy-dog look and he agrees to do the trip for 25 ringgits without the meter. No problem I say (since the pre-paid vouchers have been costing me 33 for the same trip). He gets me back in good time and I give him 30 ringgits ($10) which puts a big (toothless) smile on his face. I consider telling him about Dr Ahmad but think better of it.

Back at the hotel, I make my final Skype call of the trip to Bryony and then head out for a feed. Found a little place that did a nice Char Keow Teow.and washed it down with a Heineken.   Mmm, that was pretty good so I grabbed a couple more from the bottle shop around the corner and retired back to the hotel to pack for the flight home.   Its been a long trip and I am so much looking forward to getting home.
