Madrid, Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands
After a pathetic attempt at sleep we were up at 2am. I have travelled a lot but I still have anxiety dreams about missing the flight, forgetting luggage and worse of all going to the wrong airport. So imagine how I felt when I casually mentioned that the last time I was at Heathrow was when I went travelling round Australia and my dad said 'We're going to Gatwick aren't we?' NO!!!!! After that there was then a bit of worry about whether the motorway exit for terminal 5 was open (it was) but then we nearly missed it. Then we couldn't find the drop off. Anyway, I had checked in on line so it was just a matter of making sure the bag got checked right through to Lima and wait for the flight to Madrid. The flight was only about a third full but needless to say I got sat near a bloke who fancied himself as some kind of 70's/80's rock star. Brian May type perm, stone washed jeans that were far too tight and enormous pointy snakeskin boots. Oh yeah and a massive medallion that Mr T would have felt was probably a bit much.

I had to go through security again and it was all going very well. No alarms but they wanted to put my phone through separately so I had to go through again. This time the place lit up like a Christmas tree - I had only been through 30 seconds before. I had to have the drug wipe thing on my hands, round my waist (what's that all about?), empty the entire contents of my bag which included emergency knickers. The whole lot had to be checked. I was worried I would be taken away for a strip search but I passed. Shame really the customs bloke was quite handsome in that Spanish kind of way

So now I'm waiting for the flight to Lima, trying to decide if I should have another breakfast. Ah, the joys of travelling. The flight departs here at 1pm (it's an hour ahead of UK) and arrived es in Lima at 1pm their time. All very confusing.
