First experience of altitude

Cusco, Peru
The journey from Lima to Cusco was chaotic. The hotel had screwed up some charges on other people's bills so we couldn't leave until that was sorted out. That meant we were late leaving, got stuck in traffic (again) and had a bit of a mad dash to get through the check in. Luckily the guide was really good. She sorted it all out and we were through with time to spare. The gate came up so off I trundled but after a bit of hanging around the gate changed so off I trundled again. Quite a lot more hanging around. No sign of the plane. Eventually it turned up and by the time everyone was on we were about 45 minutes late. The flight is only about an hour but we were then stuck waiting for a gate at the other end. Cusco airport was very busy. Loads of flights coming and going. Got the luggage and it was only a 10 minute transfer. There was another tour set and because of the delayed flight it was a case of dump the bag, a quick lunch then out. Not the best way to adjust to being 3,400 metres above sea level.

We saw some alpacas, incan ruins, a brilliant double rainbow and some great views . There's another optional tour tomorrow but I might give it a miss. I don't want to be tired for Machu Pichu which is the next day and involves a 4.45am start then the day after that it's an all day drive to Lake Titicaca which is up to 4,300 feet above sea level. Tomorrow is 1 of only 2 completely free days and I want to relax - sit in a coffee shop watching the day to day life of Cusco.

4 new people joined the tour here. They had been on a trip to the Amazon. Up until now the group was all couples and me - 13 in all. There's another couple in the lot from the Amazon but 2 more singles - hooray!! I went to dinner with 3 of the 4 new joiners and they seem really nice. We've arranged to meet for dinner tomorrow too and I've been given the task of finding a nice place to eat
