Prague, Berlin madness...

Prague, Bohemia, Czech Republic
Hi everyone!Apologies for being so lazy with my emailing, but well Europe has kept me a busy girl and I've not had a great deal of free time. I certainly have much more to tell now.I'm now on my second day in Prague, which is absolutely amazing. But let me first talk about Berlin. I spent 5 days in Berlin, which I absolutely loved, I could have easily stayed on another week. I can't quite work out what it is that I loved about this city, I think possibly it's the closest city I've been in to reminding me of Sydney. However, it's also filled with so much history and it absolutely fascinating. The atmosphere during World Cup time has been wild. The first night I went down to the fan mile (an entire mile of road blocked off with screens the whole way down) I saw Germany play and beat Poland, and the city erupted into a mad frenzy afterwards. The last night I saw Australia play Brasil, which was obviously disappointing, but a crazy experience regardless, lots and lots of funny Aussies.I also met up with my German friends from the festival, who decided to come to Berlin for the long weekend. That of course was awesome, and they took me to an "alternative club". The music was ok, the venue was fantastic, but there was no one remotely alternative looking at all, I might as well have been down at the Catho. But hey every song I asked for was played immediately, so no complaints there. Then on to Saturday night, which came the most awesome place I swear I've ever been. It started with this metalwork art ehibition, and just went on from there. There is nothing I can say about this place to do it justice, but I have some pretty cool photos, which I will send on when I get a chance. It was basically a massive run down old building which was apparently a shopping centre back in the 20's, a stair case at either end which was basically filled with graffiti, and looked like it should be a dodgy old place filled with junkies and homeless people, there was a bar in an old caravan out the back and you sat around on these giant metal letters. Obviously that doesn't make it sound appealing, but there was actually very little dodgy about it. There were a couple of bars inside and an art exhibition and ahh it was just crazyWhen we first arrived there was this absolutely insane german man running around with some kind of fire shooting machine gun screaming out god knows what in some very angry sounding german, and then of course expecting us to put money in his hat. Which we did because it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.Moving on to Prague, I can't believe how amazed I am at this city. Everything is so beautiful, although I think I'm becoming a bit like that with every city I go to, every one is better than the next.Last night I went to see a show called Aspects of Alice at a black light cinema, something I've never really heard of before, but apparently Prague must be famous for because they are everywhere. The whole show is done under black light and if any of you have seen that video Matrix Ping Pong, it's a very similar kind of thing. Everything is black and people in the background wear black so you can't see them, and suddenly the set will just fly onto the stage and land in position or a pair of hands will magically appear in the air. It was one of the best things I've ever seen... It kind of followed Alice growing up beyond wonderland, and the whole thing was without speech, just music. One thing that really stands out here are the beggers. I've found it fascinating to watch the beggin culture across the different countries, every country seems to have a different style, but Prague just has this way of strinking you right in the heart. They have legless men just sitting in the middle of the footpath with a hat, and the rest of them kneel over their red plastic bowl like a dog about to start eating and just stay that way all day, and don't look up.Anyway, I have to stop now as I could write on all day with the things I've seen in the past couple of weeks. I move on to Cesky Krumlov (also in the Czech Republic) in a couple of days, and then to Vienna. I'll write more soonBye!
