Nigel: We decided to move up to Quy Nhon to spend New Year there. It is again another beach resort, but this one is dedicated more for Vietnamese people. We arrived by bus on New Years eve and luckily there was still rooms available. We thought that we would stay in our room until about 9pm and then go and get some food. We were slightly disappointed to find out that the hotel that we were staying in was closing the doors at 11:30pm, thus meaning we would have to be back before 12am. The second thing that didn't help was the fact that all the restaurants were closed so our pre New Year meal was looking to be crisps and coke from the shop. Across the road from where we were staying was a 4 star hotel, so we decided to try, on the off chance, to see if the restaurant was still open. It was, but we were the only ones eating so we had our own personal service. We sat down by the pool which looked out on to the beach and had a great meal and it was not too expensive either. We thought we wouldn't be down beat on the curfew time and instead we would go up to the hotels rooftop balcony and watch all the fireworks go off at midnight. So 12 o clock came and went and nothing. The only indication that it was New Year was when some lads came past and shouted up 'Happy New Year!'. So that was our memorable introduction to 2010.
Quy Nhon as a place was very clean and tidy but due to where the cheap hotels were situated,
which was either side of the main beach front, it meant a long walk to the centre
. The beach was better and more calmer than Nha Trang but as it is a fishing town it does have many boats anchored up on one side of the beach.
Happy(ish) New Year!!
