KL and the train to Penang

Peninsular Malaysia, Malaysia
We were up and packed pretty early, left our bags at the front desk and wandered out. It was disappointing how much construction was underway on Bukit Bintang and surrounds. Strangely we found a french restaurant and had a really nice breakfast and fantastic coffee from a - of course - french press.

We struggled to get to China Town and Sentral Market using tips from Tripadvisor on how to do it via the monorail but it proved too difficult so we hailed a cab . Rhiannon has been growing gradually sicker ever since we started and is feeling downright punk. The walking was not fun for her and when Rhiannon's not having fun, nobody is having fun.

We were low on cash funds and for some reason ATMs at several banks were not functioning. I was worried about what might be going on in any major kind of way,but ultimately we found an open bank with functioning ATM and got more RM. The worst part of this is that we wandered pretty far in order to do it and then didn't go back and buy the perfect backpack that we had found back in China Town. We should have and we are regretting it. Hoping we will see one like it at the markets in Thailand.

After a fun shopping extravaganza we wandered about in the Sentral Market for a bit and then upstairs for a really fantastic lunch at the most amazing food court inside there. Pictures later - especially of the mango floss.

We hailed a cab easily and went back for our bags, hiked to the monorail station and off to KL Sentral . While I sat parked on a bench in the waiting area of our train, guarding our pile of stuff, Rhiannon found a 'chemist' to get cold medicine and she picked up a rather odd assortment of snacks for our trip. I had booked first class seats on the train because 1) they were cheap and 2) I didn't want to hassle with worrying about whether we would be comfortable for a 6 hour train journey. We were. The views out the train were great ... after a couple of hours it grew dark and of course we made our way to Penang in the dark so we haven't seen much of it.
