I did pretty well with getting everything ready, both in the camper and in the house. I almost got out the door on schedule at 8:00a, too. But my new data plan wasn't working so I had to call for help.
I had just gotten that straightened out and began pulling away, hadn't even left the neighborhood, yet, when Rhiannon called. "Have you left? Can you get my shoes and my hair dryer?" I swung back home and picked up the things she wanted. May as well.
Finally, double checking all the locks, I rolled away. The truck is running well, the new hitch feels great. I'm humming along and the dogs are ecstatic.
Just after I get on the freeway to head out of town ... brake lights. Finally after an hour I can see an LED sign informing us of a 'large crash'. Another hour later I saw no evidence of it as I passed a lone police car and picked up speed. It was a bummer for me to lose that much time - by then it was after noon. But I think the people involved in the large crash had a worse day, so I'll take mine.
Flagstaff is a pretty place and I'm not heartbroken that I'm here. But it is not nearly as far as I had hoped to get. I stayed hitched and only plugged in power so I can pretty fast-away in the morning. I'll try to make-up time. It's flat, windy, dusty desert for most of tomorrow. But it has it's own serene beauty. Goal time to leave: 6:30a (because it's Sunday and I don't have to work.)
