Got up at 5am to go to the Tsukiji fish market. I heard a lot about it, but when I got there I found that it was no longer open to tourists. A bit disappointing, but the outer market area was still pretty good.
After breakfast we strolled around Hama-tilting Gardens near our hotel, which was established in 1654 and is still a lovely inner city oasis
After lunch it was time for the grand finale, going to see a Sumo tournament. We got a guided tour so we had a very good explanation of the most important aspects.
Sumo is the national sport here and all the elite wrestlers are well known and idolised.
It was a very exciting and entertaining event full of tradition and ritual. The arena holds around 11,000 people and it was full.
What a wonderful way to end our trip to Japan.
