Monkey Attack!

Lopburi, Lop Buri, Thailand
Stand still for too long and you become fair game for the monkeys!

After a 40 minute delay (and you thought English trains were bad!), but only 20B each (amazing!) we took the hour-long train journey North, to Lopburi — a town dotted with small temples . The main attraction: the monkey residents.

Although a little wary to start — after warnings from our Lonely Plant to just look at the bite marks on the young tour guides' arms — we became more relaxed around our new fury friends. Maybe too relaxed?

In temple number one, a hoard of baby monkeys decided that undoing all the Velcro on my sandals was a great game lol. Temple number two, while distracted by watching the monkey water park, I was literally scaled. One overly confident monkey climbed all the way up to sit on top of my hat, whilst at least two others (I am told; I was concentrating on the one on my head) hung onto my backpack. …or rather, tried to get into my backpack!

Top Tip: Don't stand still for too long if you don't want to be a climbing frame for monkeys

All very entertaining! You could write a book "Experiences and lessons learned in Thailand". So sad though about all the ornate temples: the money put into them, often by people who have hardly enough to eat, in the hope of "gaining favour" and a better after-life, or perhaps children doing better in exams etc.
