Down and Under

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

The bunk bed was comfortable and I slept well. I got woken up by the girl who was on the top bunk rummaging her suitcase to pack her back pack, she left early for some trip.

Then later the church bells rang, it was Sunday and the other two girls woke up, they were from Switzerland and really friendly; they told me they had been staying there for a week and they had continuance problems with the deprogrammed key card, no wifi which they had to paid extra for, we kept a bottle on the door to leave the room open when we went to wash rooms. Apart from these problems the Yha is in excellent location near the rail station, which was very suitable for my tight itinerary yesterday. Some staff were friendly, others just fine. We all checked out at ten as the girls were going to Melbourne. I had breakfast at the café in the hostel, the veggie breakfast was really good and I tried to take a taxi but I did not see one for 5 mins so it was time for plan B and I took the free bus to the stop for Sofital hotel.

So today from Backpacking to a little luxury, I was staying at Sofital Hotel, it was like rags to riches, I waited 10 mins in queue for the check in and I was in my room before 11.30 am. My room was lovely with the views of Circular Quay, I took a walk around Circular Quay and Opera house. Sydney Harbour is beautiful and one of the best harbours, I have seen so far, I was there in March on a sunny day and it was impeccable. The iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge dominates the views with many restaurants and cafes along the Circular Quay, where ferries transport you to many places. There were many people enjoying their drinks on Sunday afternoon, some ladies were well dressed for the festival.

I passed the Italian Gelato ice cream place and I indulged myself to another of the delicious ice cream, they knew me well there as I became their regular customer so I got a big scoops. I enjoyed the divine ice cream while listening to the Aboriginal man playing the Didgeridoo which was really lovely, on a glorious day with beautiful surroundings.  I explored the area & the rocks which is historic part of Sydney with stalls, few restaurants, it was very crowded with people on Sunday. I really liked the views of Opera house from there. The harbour lights up in the evening and it is nice to see it after sunset. I had garlic bread and pasta before going to my hotel which was five mins walk to circular quay.

Next morning I got ready for my friend to pick me up from Sofital for more sightseeing. Brad took me to Bondi beach, Robertson Park for great views and Dudley Beach.

It was nice to see Sydney in a comfortable car and I really appreciate his sweet gesture of taking me around, he is a very kind gentleman. We had a drink and he dropped me to the airport, I was flying with Virgin Atlantic to Hong Kong. After taking off we had to come back as one of the passengers was ill, after over an hour we took off again, the flight was good and I enjoyed the vegetarian meals. I was really excited to see my daughter at Hong Kong airport, she looked well and Hong Kong life suited her. We chatted till half the night and she did my laundry, It is really nice to have family time.
