Fun, Exhausting Weekend

Saipan, Northern Mariana Isl.
Friday's BBQ was good. Global really gets some good meat for their wholesale, and when they have a BBQ they choose the best of what they have in stock at the time. I bought the beer, and ran into Suka at the store getting some other stuff. She needed to make some kimchi so I dropped off the food and beer and came back. I ended up getting a really bad hamstring cramp toward the end of the BBQ and spent the rest of the evening trying to walk it off.

Saturday I worked in the morning then did the Hash in the afternoon. The trail was a bit disappointing this time. It wasn't quite as bad for me as for many of the others, since the hares strung together portions of three trails that had been set by others and run in the last few weeks. A few of us cut out a significant couple of miles because the trail looped back on itself and we ran into them coming back. The problem, aside from the repetition of recent runs, was that the trail was 75% pavement. The hares even drove much of it and just dropped flour off the back of the pickup truck. Pretty lame if you ask me. I did run a significant amount of it instead of just walking it, so the training continued.

One of the hares was also organizing a party at one of the beaches. We hooked up with Suka and went to that. It was pretty lame, also. We ended up turning in early.

Today (Sunday) we slept in and hung around the apartment until early afternoon. We went to go see "3:10 to Yuma." At first we got there early and ended up cruising Price-Costco where I explained typical American shopping to her. For example, the concept of scaled, deboned and beheaded fish is a little novel for her. Also the bulk of Price-Costco is novel, as well.

In the middle of the movie, the power went out. They fired up the generators, but after a few minutes it turned out that they either had a generator problem or some monumental bad decision-making in their equipment choices. We started to only see a couple of frames every few seconds with a complete soundtrack. It happened right at a critical point in the movie. They ended up giving us (and the entire rest of the Sunday matinee theater crowd) readmission tickets.

After that we came home, I made dinner, and here I am writing to you all. Overall, I'm pretty tired from Friday's and Saturday's activities still. The plan is to be back on the bike tomorrow morning.
