Time Flies

Saipan, Northern Mariana Isl.
Time seems to be whipping by. Only one week until the bike race. Just a couple of days after that, I take off to China. Whew!

The last couple of days I've been pretty homesick. That's really unusual for me, but that's what it is. As much as I don't want to rush the trip, I'll be glad to be in my house for awhile. I'm planning to stay home until January (minus the Boston trip the week of Dec 2).

Northwest has been great in the aftermath of the plane snafu, too. They gave me an Elite mile bonus for the Nagoya-Guam leg. The 2,000 mile voucher somehow showed up on my account as a 10,000 mile credit. I sent them an e-mail complimenting them on their handling of it, and they gave me another 15,000 miles. And the Continental Guam-Saipan flight hasn't even posted. All of this brought me up to over 500,000 lifetime flier miles (not actual miles flown), and even though I spend a lot of miles last year, I'm now back up over 100,000 banked miles with the round trip to Hong Kong and the trip home still outstanding.

Now for the story of life. Thursday after work we went to the street market and had fajita burritos from the Hyatt. We bought some Chamorro tapioca rice and snuck it into the movie theater to see The Kingdom. The dialog was a bit difficult for Suka, but she enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty good, but it dragged a bit in places.

The weather was nasty on Friday, so I skipped biking and just worked in the morning. In the afternoon I watched Andrew and Ashley while Dave had a staff meeting. The evening was pretty mellow. We just stayed in, made dinner, and watched the rest of The Princess Bride on DVD.

This morning I made up for yesterday's ride. Actually, I didn't go nearly as far or as hard as I intended. My legs were feeling weak and a big storm was rolling in toward the end so I cut it short. There's a major road that cuts across the middle of the island at this part. There's a big hill on it that is downhill in the direction I went today. I managed to top 50 mph on it. What a blast!

We're going to the first birthday party for her friend's son today at lunch. The Hash starts late tonight, so she'll be able to make it. It's the Trail of Darkness Oktobeerfest run. Now you know as much as I do almost. One of the Hashers is a home brewer. He's supplying the beer tonight. I hear it's pretty good, but it usually only shows up on the Full Moon Hash, which I haven't made yet. Next Saturday (after the bike race!) will be my first.
