Dinner Party

Saipan, Northern Mariana Isl.
In the evening, Suka and I went to Stephanie's condo (see the previous entry for who Stephanie is) for a scotch tasting with Alan and a couple of other Hashers, Brian (dentist) and his wife, Francine. I had brought a bottle of scotch from Royal Oak, since this was an event planned in concept well in advance.

Alan is from the Detroit area and brought some scotch back from a trip he just took back to the States. Brian had a nice bottle from the same distillery as mine. I also picked up a bottle for Alan at DFS Galleria (the duty free shop) on my way to Stephanie's house. For those who care, the lineup was Macallan 12, The Balvenie Single Barrel 15, The Balvenie Doublewood 12, and Highland Park 16.

Stephanie made a bunch of food, "a little affair" in French fashion. Two quiches, falafel, hummus, a special bread (very tasty, but I still don't know what was in it), and a couple of other things. They brought back Zingermann's cheeses and olive oils which we broke out with at various times. And there were several wines to accompany parts of it.

There was good conversation. Half of the attendees were non-native English speakers (Francine is French-Canadian and definitely French-dominant), so the conversation was very inclusive for Suka. Some of the conversation was in French, since Stephanie is French, Francine is French-Canadian, Brian learned French well for his life with Francine, and Alan picked up a passing amount along the way. I even managed a lame bit of French wordplay at one point.

The party finally broke up a little after midnight. People had to work. Stephanie's condo is up on Capital Hill on the way to Mt. Tapachao and has a spectacular view over Garapan and the shipping areas. I'm going to pin her house on the map this time.
