Heading south, but slightly off piste......

Vizille, Rhône-Alpes, France
On a dull morning, we left Beaune and headed out onto the motorway, determined to head south for some sun.   However, being us we couldn't just stick to the motorway, so we devised a cunning plan.......
When we got to Lyon we headed off towards Geneva, then more south towards Grenoble.
As we headed through the Chartreuse massive towards Grenoble we got caught in a terrific hailstorm!      So much for looking for sun.

After Grenoble we headed off into The mountains on the D85 - the Route Napoleon - the route Napoleon took in March 1815 after he left Elba and arrived on the south coast of France. Only we were doing the route in the opposite direction.
We headed for a camp site just outside Grenoble at Vizille, however when we got there we didn't like the look of it , so headed further on to a small campsite by a lake.

As we were getting settled it actually started to snow!!     The surrounding mountains were covered in fresh powder - probably some of the first snow of the season. - we are supposed to be chasing the SUN!!!!!

We managed to get some French TV and the forecast for the next 2 days was for full suns and temps of 16 deg.    This meant we should have a good journey through the mountains
We went to bed with hot water bottles and PJ's and hoped that our water pipes didn't freeze!
