To the Lighthouse! (With apologies to VW)

Lindesnes Municipality, Southern Norway, Norway
After breakfast we kept hearing the sound of drums and bands playing!  Finally, across the river marching bands came in to sight.   They came over the footbridge and into a large area right beside where the MH's were parked!
Apparently this was some sort of School's Marching Bands competition.   The bands and their majorettes just kept coming until there were about a dozen!  They were all beautifully turned out with uniforms, gold braid and epaulettes and banners held aloft and batons twirling.   Some were of mixed ages, some were obviously older and more 'professional', but they were all very entertaining.    They all formed up and then marched off again, back over the bridge and back into a different part of town.   It was great excitement while it lasted!

Time for us to move on too, so back onto the E39 and then off on a very twisty and windy road to Lindesnes Fyr ( fire or lighthouse)   This is the most southerly point in Norway and the direct opposite to Nordkapp.   Norway is a very long country so Lindesnes is 2518km from Nordkapp.

There is a very big carpark at the lighthouse which is free and very popular for MH's to overnight in.   There were about 20 there overnight.    The carpark is free, but it costs 50NOK to enter the lighthouse area,  however you can enter for free after closing time, which is usually 5pm, but had changed that day to 8pm.
We decided to go for a coast walk instead. This turned out to be a steep climb/ scramble up over rocks and through boggy areas following red paint markers, but the views at the top were fantastic.

After dinner, and after 8pm, we went for a wander up and over the lighthouse area. Again the Germans had set up a coastal battery here and drilled tunnels and passageways through the rocks.   The present lighthouse is of cast iron and dates from 1916, but there has been a lighthouse on this spot since the 17thC
There were lots of very boggy, marshy areas around and I took photos of some lovely flowe

Well Cheryl and Rob, you've certainly seen things and been places natural and man made that are unusual and leave me feeling even more "enviously brotherly!" Looking forward to seeing pics and to seeing you two in July. Love. DDx
