Skagerrak and Kattegat- not by Dave D and co!

Skagen, Jutland, Denmark
We were awake before the alarm went off and got to Kristiansand in good time to join the queue for the ferry.  Most of the other MH's were Norwegians heading for the Sun!   The crossing took 3 and a half hours, and most people on board seemed to spend this filling trollies with booze in the Duty Free shop.   The purchase of alcohol is controlled by the government in Norway. Supermarkets can only sell beer, no wine or spirits.  These are bought from govt shops and are very expensive. Supermarket beer was on average 280 NOK - about £2.50 per CAN!. We have never seen people buying so much booze!

When we drove off the ferry we turned left and headed for the most northerly point in Denmark just north of Skagen. At the Grenen the waters from the Skagerrat, between Norway and Denmark, meet those of the Kattegat, between Denmark and Sweden.
The waters of the Skagerrat come from the North sea and are more powerful than those from the Kattegat.   The sand spit at the tip moves a bit every year.   it is customary to walk out to the Grenen and stand with one foot in each sea.   There is almost a queue of people waiting to have their photo taken!
We both had an afternoon nap after our early start but went for a walk about 10.30pm to see the sunset, but unfortunately, especially on 23rd June, some cloud drifted in.   Further along the coast in Skagen village they lit a reproduction of an ancient coal basket light signal, and sent up clouds of black smoke.
We paid about  £7 to stay in the car point at the point until 5pm and from then until 9am it was free for MH's.
