The Autovia de Montanas

Arguedas, Navarre, Spain and Canary Islands
The local Peugeot garage did not have a mechanic available to use the diagnostic computer and advised us to come back on Monday am.  As the previous garage had told us there was no serious problem and the MH was driving as per usual and not overheating etc, we decided to carry on.
We went to Hendaye and joined the Motorway on the Spanish side of the border. it cost e2.35 to by-pass San Sebastian and then we were on the free Autovia de Montanas. The sun came out and we climbed up through the lovely Basque countryside.
We made our way around Pamplona , which sits on a large plain, and then on towards our planned overnight stop at the MH Aire in the village of Arguedas.
It cost e2.10 to by-pass Pamplona - so much cheaper than the French motorway tolls.

Arguedas is on the edge of the Bardenas Reales Natural Park- an area of very dry, almost desert like rock formations. Arguedas is famous for its cave houses - occupied for about 100 yrs, but now abandoned.
I'll leave the photos to tell the story!

Cheryl and Rob, you are keeping my spirits up, great pics of interesting places this is stopping me going to bed. Haven't had opportunity to read in detail and study those pics and read all the detail and make inane comments. Honestly Cheryl, you should be on assignment for a travel magazine or similar.
