Springs, fountains and waterfalls

Navajas, Valencian Country, Spain and Canary Islands
I woke up feeling a bit under the weather with a definite cold.   It was still very dark at 8am, then we had a pink sunrise.   We have lovely views of the hills from our pitch. This site seems to be very popular with Brits. One disappointment was that my eagerly anticipated shower was barely luke warm!
Later we wandered down the very steep road through the site and then down into the town.  The streets were very narrow and deserted.  We found the main square with the Town Hall and the Olmo - a huge tree planted in 16 something, with a fountain at its base. Unfortunately everything seemed slightly run down and uncared for.
We found a bakery and bought a very nice loaf.
We followed signs for Las Fuentes and loking down from a viewing point, could see the path down by the river ,way below.
When we got down to the river we came across several springs/fountains which in the past had been built around and decorated. Unfortunately they were now looking very run down and in one place there had been a recent rock fall. del Hierro.jpg]
We carried on past some waterfalls until we came to the big one, El Salto de la Novia (60m high) which is shown on the web and on posters.
These show people enjoying the large natural swimming pools with a bridge across to the other side.  Unfortunately the bridge has been washed away and is more like stepping stones. The whole area looked sad and uncared for, but in the past people must have put a lot of effort and money into making it all look very attractive.   It is such a shame that it has all been allowed to fall into disrepair.

We walked back to the campsite a different way, passing several beautiful big villas, one dated 1895 and the others must have been about the same era. Some were empty or boarded up, several were A Vende, one was now the local area Police station and 2 were being refurbished and developed by builders - possibly as hotels.
This area was once a cool haven up in the hills for the wealthy of Valencia
