Turning left onto the Via Verde

Navajas, Valencian Country, Spain and Canary Islands
I was definitely feeling under the weather this morning, after a night of more coughing than sleeping, so we had a lazy start.   After lunch we decided we ought to get some fresh air, so went for a leisurely stroll on the Via Verde, but turned left this time towards the village of Altura.
The walk there wasn't as scenic as yesterday's - following and going under the Autovia.
We passed lots of well cultivated land, with newly pruned olives and lots of almond trees just breaking into lovely blossom.
As we got near to Altura the track split and we followed a sign to some Fuentes. After going down a steep rough dirt track we came across an area of paths, fences and terraces with seating. We found some picture boards showing 'before and after' photos of what looked like a lot of volunteers and young people clearing undergrowth and making fences etc.
The springs and fountains had been cleaned up and refurbed in March 2015 to mark the centenary of the first fountain building.
Unfortunately, just under a year later, it was all full of weeds and looked very neglected.  It seems such a shame that so much money and effort goes into these projects, but there doesn't seem to be any upkeep and maintenance and sustained interest.
We carried on until we could look down over Altura, but decided to turn back as I was feeling really tired.
We were glad we had cycled in the opposite direction yesterday as on our walk today there hadn't been any seats or picnic tables etc and the scenery was uninspiring.
It got cold very quickly, as soon as the sun went down and we were pleased to find we could have both bars (800watts) of our electric fire on with the meagre 6amp electricity supply!
