Ridiculous to the sublime

La Isleta, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands
Another lovely fine day. We were entertained while we had our breakfast by a procession of fitness fanatics going past - serious joggers in luminous lycra, groups of 'older' women, older men in trackie bottoms, mountain bikers, fast walkers with arms swinging as well as loads of dog walkers. We were exhausted just watching them go by - and then back again!
Several fishing boats set out to sea, and it was time for us to go too.
We carried on on the N332 which hugged the coast, passing several other beaches with MH's. We pulled in at the Anibal garage to fill up with LPG (autogas in Spain) and there were about 5 of us in the queue.
We then moved onto the AL1707, a white road which hugs the coast and took us past some fantastic scenery. We would heartily recommend this route - far better than winging down the A7 Autovia.
Unfortunately once we got to Villaricos and he outskirts of Vera's playas the road was lined with flats and apartments - holiday and permanent homes for lots of northern Europeans- the worst sort of developments. Alot of it looked empty and Se Vende.
We made the mistake of not by passing Garrucha and ended up going right through the middle of this fair sized town. This was actually quite interesting because it was a 'real' working town and was obviously here long before the explosion of development along the coast.
We went through Mojacar Playa, where the beaches looked quite nice , but not all the development on the other side of the road. We even managed to spot Mojacar Pueblo, high on the hill
The road now moved inland a bit, twisting and climbing with great views. We passed what looked like a wooden shepherd's hut towed by a tractor, with Swiss registration plates - a real hippy wagon!Just before Carboneras we stopped for lunch near a huge Hotel complex, which spilled down the cliffside. This was unfinished and abandoned - even the huge cranes were orange with rust. Another victim of the recession?
After Carboneras we made our way back to the A7, as the coast road runs out through the Natural Park. We then turned off the A7 towards the Cabo da Gata and ended up at La Isleta de Moro.

When we were here last year we promised ourselves we would return one day and wild camp on the beach. When we arrived there were already 6 MH's already there.
After a rest in the sun we went for a good wander around.
We love this place and had a wonderful evening watching the birds and listening to the waves crashing in. We even saw what we think was a shoal of some sort of surface feeding fish.
To end it all the sky briefly turned pink as the sun set over the hills.
