Day 5? - Clean out/Beach day

Nome, Alaska, United States
The winds were up again today and with the same forecast for the next few days, diving may not be an option. The opportunity was taken to clean out the sluice box to see how much gold was collected after a day of dredging. Unfortunately I will have to upload those photos later. All in all it was not a bad take for just on days work. What do you do when you can’t dive? You mine the beach. The beach gold is much finer, almost powdery,  and takes a lot of work, but can be worth it. We prospectedd for a few hours planning to bring the larger beach sluice tomorrow to work for the day. Why buckets of sand where hauled down the beach to our little creek, I took some time to sea glass hunt and metal detect. Interestingly the biggest signal I got was near a large walrus carcass. After digging for a bit I knew I was pushing my luck staying so close to somethings dinner, so back up the beach I headed, while I still could. Using the 4 wheeler to head back towards town, the drive shaft exploded with such a noise I thought something was coming through the floor. There is always something when you are in such a harsh inviroment. Exhausted from all the non-stop fun, we all retired early, around 10:30. I think all the cold wind has now given me a cold.

I know you are enjoying it, but some of this is beginning to sound like work. Of course, it beats working in the Florida sun. Try to stay away from bear's vittles. lol
