Day 6-7 Life in Nome
I have adapted to life in Nome as a gold miner. Here, nothing is scheduled and everything is dependent on the weather. I have developed a morning routine though since I am usually up early. I head to the beach to hunt Sea glass, then meet the guys at Bearing Sea Tea for coffee where we decide what to do next. Having been windy for the last couple days, diving has not been an option. We decided to head back to camp for a cleanout, which means washing the gold out of the sluice box mats. A couple hours later and 1.5 ozs was washed for only really one full days work. We then prepared some salmon for the smoker and  headed back out to the river to try and stock up on more salmon. Out fishing trips turn into more of a party than anything while we wait for the fish to appear. The showed up very sporadic this time, and we were only able to bring back one large fish. Still it was a great time out fishing.
Friday, again windy, we goofed around, visiting the nearby old dredges used many years ago. We also went to the Pomranke inland mine where we were able to witness their operation first hand. This is the family from the tv show Bering Sea gold that has built quite a successful gold mining operation here. It was a real treat. Ella, Steve’s niece jumped off her dozer to show us some of the nuggets she has found while working. It was awesome to see the nuggets.
Back at camp we cooked the salmon from the prior days trip.
With my Airbnb now over, I crawled into my tent for the night.
