Nome is home no more
Sadly this is the day the 5 guy crew of the past week splits up.
My cousin Kenny, Sinclair and I head for Anchorage where those two will catch a flight home. Kevin and Josh will stay behind to finish up some business with the gold operation. I will be spending a few days somewhere yet to be determined.
I am now going to take a minute to introduce the 4 guys I was with and a tidbit personality trait so you can see the diversity/commonality that helped us mesh.
Kenny - my cousin and the only one I knew before this trip. The outdoors man who could survive living off the land. Minimalist. Adventurer.
Josh - Kenny’s partner. Quiet, cerebral, mechanical, Adventurer.
Kevin - works with them, traveler, photographer, Adventurer. Oh, and refuses to take off this hooded jacket, Ever!
Sinclair - Josh’s visiting friend. An encyclopedia of unverifiable information that will leave you wondering if he is really sometimes just full of $&@! Lol.
Prayer of Sinclairisms, that are not publishable.
A wanna be Adventurer, who, just like myself somehow got wrapped up in the responsibilities of children.
This motley crew was a great group.
Not having had the opportunity for “guy” trips when my friends were single, this showed me what I still can look forward to.
Saying goodbye for now to the last 2, I headed to Walmart for a tent, then off to Alyeska ski resort for a tram ride up the mountain to view Cooks Inlet. What a breathtaking ride. The sky was clear and the views magnificent. As I was about to board for the ride down, I heared a yell and saw an employee walking a young women away as she cried in pain. I asked another onlooker what had happened and found out a group of 20 something guys bought bear spray(pepper spray) and thought it would be fun to shoot it off, unknowingly, shooting the women in the eyes.
Now this may be funny to you or may not be, I won’t judge you, and you shouldn’t judge me. I will say it is a little hard to suppress just the hint of a grin as I type this. I’m sure it washed out eventually. Just another day in Alaska. Back to Anchorage for the night.
