What to do. A boring blog day
This is the part of my trip where I know the end is getting close, I’m anxious to have to get back in the rat race, and just want to pack in a few more adventures before I go. However, I should know from past experience, you can’t force the best experiences. They just have to happen. So today was a day of frustration. I headed south to the Kenai Peninsula with the ideas of kayaking to a glacier, salmon fishing, and whatever else caught my attention. As I headed south I was engulfed by the enormity of the surrounding mountains. I decided to make my way to a quaint small town I had visited in the past called Seward.  As I drove through town it became apparent Fourth of July was providing a gross population increase to the point there was nowhere to camp. Speaking with a local I found out there was an annual foot race up Marathon mountain that drew thousands to town. Quickly getting irritated with the crowds I sought to avoid, I quickly abandoned the kayak idea and headed towards Saldotna, another hour and half away. Arriving in Saldotna, I again abandoned the idea of chartering a fishing day and headed back about halfway to Coopers Landing. Now reading this you can probably sense my frustration. My lack of indecision was the cause. Once in Cooper Landing and after speaking with a fishing guide, I committed to camping here and going at is alone at the fishing at a place called the Russian River falls. The reds came in and reports are there are still some around. Now committed and with a plan, I had dinner at a local restaurant rented some fishing gear and retired to my tent.
