Hillwood, Margaret Meriwether Post's estate

Sunday, August 18, 2002
Washington, District of Columbia, United States
High of at least96° & partly cloudy. Extremely humid as well.

We made breakfast and caught a metro to Van Ness/UWD stop and then since it was so horridly hot, caught a taxi to Hillwood, Margaret Meriwether Post's estate consisting of a federal mansion with exquisite antiques, gardens and out buildings.

We got the audio guides first so we could use them as we toured the flower & plant conservatory, the gardens, out buildings and pet cemetery. We enjoyed everything! We watched the original orientation film made years ago that gives a fairly good historic introduction into the life of Ms. Post.

If you visit DC, be sure to make reservations in advance to visit this outstanding place. You will find it very rewarding. Check out my photos

We had forgotten about the "Giant" 1 ½" to 2" roaches that abound all over DC. During our first visit we encountered them emerging from the sewers every evening, even in trendy Dupont Circle. They still abound. Later when we were in Baltimore we noticed some more.
