Arriving in Canmore, Alberta

Canmore, Alberta, Canada
We have settled into our condo at Three Sisters Mountain Village, which will be our base for the next four weeks. At the moment, the weather is warm with maximums in the high 20s and a bit of humidity, which has given us some overnight thunderstorms. However, the temperatures will take a dip over the weekend, down to the low 10s. The only problem with the warm weather is the southerly winds bringing smoke from forest fires in Montana and Idaho. Not good for budding photographers.

Southern Alberta is very green as they have had a cool and wet summer. Unfortunately, the north of the province has been hot and dry with the huge wildfires around Fort McMurray in May. The Fort McMurray residents are only now being allowed to return home, some four months after the fires.

Canmore has a market every Thursday during the summer months. On our drive into the markets from the condo we came across a deer and a lady elk. Unfortunately, they did not pose long enough for us to capture a photo. Most of the fresh food produce comes from the Okanagon area in British Columbia. In previous years, we have been able to buy cherries at the market well into September, but not this year. Due to a hot start to the season in the Okanagons, the cherry season started early and subsequently finished earlier than normal. Very unhappy Jan!!

Today, Thursday, we visited the Sunshine Village near Banff, which is the base for skiing in the winter season. No snow yet, but you never know.
