Puntarenas Canton, Puntarenas, Costa Rica
We had booked a tour independent of the ship with the Local company GI tours. They were amazing, they sent a mini bus just for the 4 us. As it turned out had we met Jan and Pete on the ship and invited them to join us, so we were 6 on our private tour. Out guide Chris could not have been more enthusiastic, knowledgable and attentive.

We started out at a mini national park, with the specific task of finding a special type of monkey, unfortunately they were cleaning the seaweed from the beach with a grader and the monkeys had taken flight. Never the less Chris did great job of explaining the local fauna and finding some Howler monkeys instead,

From her we headed to the Tarcoles River for a cruise amongst the crocodiles. En route we visited acountry fruit stall and tasted some local delicacies.

The Tarcoles river cruise was truly amazing - crocs everywhere - and big one at that, as big as ours in Aus. The guide hand fed them from the bank with chicken wings - we were holding our breath and calling him back because it seemed a really crazy thing to do - but evidently, in the main, they like chicken more than humans.

Lunch was next at a local open air bar - very good and all washed down with local beer. At lunch we noticed the launch drivers arm - it had a scar the entire length of it - upon investigation - you got it - caused by a croc !!!!

Two stops on the way back to the ship - the first at a very luxurious resort called Nativa - exclusive enough to have accommodated rock and film stars, luckily for us the GI mob had exclusives access for day tours, next was the obligatory shopping stop at a tourist outlet in the country

I fib - there was one more stop, we asked Chris if we could go to a local supermarket - and he gladly obliged - we we're enthrall by the variety of goods sold there - everything from fresh meat to car tyres.

Back at the dock, there was a local market, so we had time to peruse it before setting sail for Nicaragua
