Day 4: Octoberfest then Gitti's for dinner

Sunday, September 20, 2015
Munich, Bavaria, Germany
The plan was to attend the Octoberfest parade, but due to weather and most of us needing extra sleep it didn't happen. we just watched it from the T.V. It was raining off and on as we watched the parade. Manu was on the phone during this time making reservations in Italy for us. We will be going to a place near Lake Garda : Lago di Garda or Lago Benaco which is the largest lake in Italy. Manu and Hans have stayed there many times, but Hans has to perform surgery on Wednesday and will not be going with us. Manu had to call twice to have the reservations confirmed.
We decided at the last minute to spend a few hours at the Octoberfest before heading to Gitti's for dinner since the rain looked like it would not be too bad . So we all got dressed and headed out. The subway stops right at the Octoberfest and at every stop the train filled up more and more with people dressed in men's Lederhosen and dirndl dresses.
We arrived at the Octoberfest and it was raining slightly, so I bought Bonnie an umbrella. About 20 minutes later the umbrella was no longer needed! The sun came out slightly and the rain held off the rest of the time we were there. As we walked around I took many pictures and was amazed at all the rides and beer tents.
On our way out I wanted to look for a place to have a quick beer. I found a small beer garden (Paulaner brewery) and so Bonnie, Miah, Tom and I had a beer. You have to pay 3 Euro extra for the glass and they give you a blue chip so you can turn in the glass after you are done to get the 3 Euro back. We finished our beers and headed back to the subway so we could meet Hans at Manu's place.
Hans greeted us when we arrived and after a quick break to freshen up we left for Gitti's house. Gitti lives only about 30 minutes away in a very nice house. We were greeted by Ade, Gitti, Gitt's two daughters and their husbands. Ade started grilling after we arrived and I took a few pictures while the food cooked. Gitti had a table set up in an outdoor room with Potato salad, pasta salad and sauerkraut. Ade was grilling hot and mild sausages, spare ribs, pork chops and red peppers. German music was playing as we sat down to eat, drink and enjoy ourselves. After dinner Gitti served plum cake and 3 different kinds of schnapps (Raspberry, Apricot and Hazelnut). We all talked for a little bit before saying our goodbyes. We will see them again when we return from Italy.
