Liberty Bell?

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States
We slept in this morning and got ready for our day in downtown Philadelphia. But when Jeff drove us to the train station, the trains weren't running due to the storm that had passed through. There were apparently ten trees down on the tracks and teams were still clearing them. We were told they weren't running "until further notice."

So "Liberty Bell Day" became "laundry day" just like that . We relaxed around the house, did some laundry and watched the first episode of the second season of Star Wars Rebels. (Which if you haven't seen it, is fun. Basically Aladdin in space. Good times.)

Eventually we decided to get out of the house. Annaliese and the kids took us to the quaint little downtown area of Media. However, many things were still closed due to power outages. One shop we went into was giving customers flashlights to do their shopping and writing receipts by hand. We found a burger place with power and ate dinner. We tried fries seasoned with "Old Bay" seasoning. It was good. Kinda salty/sweet.

It was fun walking along the streets because they were blocked off for a "Dining Under the Stars" event. Hundreds of people were sitting at the tables set up in the street talking, drinking and eating. But as we were walking back to the van from dinner, the power went out on the other side of the street (both sides now out). Many people waiting for food would never get it. In fact, an alarm that sounded like a bomb warning sounded to call the volunteer firemen to the station, and people with bullhorns began announcing the situation to the crowds. What a bummer! We were so grateful that we had been able to eat.

Spontaneously, on the way home, Annaliese offered to take us to downtown Philadelphia on the spot. So we got to see the Liberty Bell after all.

Having driven around more today, I am so thankful that we have power at the Goves. Not sure what tomorrow, our last day here, will bring!
