Seward

Sitka, Alaska, United States
For our last day in Alaska (on this trip, at least) we talked Jackie and Keaton into driving us out to Seward. The drive itself is beautiful. Mountains, lush forest, coastal waters and the hope of wildlife at every turn. We saw an eagle, and some white spots on the rocks that looked tantalizingly akin to sheep. I looked tirelessly for bear but didn't see one.

Our first stop once we got to Seward was Ray's . It is a favorite restaurant there on the water. We ordered up four helpings of fish and chips and enjoyed a meal.

After that we went to the Aquarium. We wanted to show Desmond the wildlife up close. He was very interested in all the fish and birds we saw. We cracked up when he would ponder a new animal for a moment and then name it "ahdog." Didn't matter if it were a puffin or a sea lion - they were all dogs to him. He especially enjoyed watching the harbor seals antics. They would zip by the viewing window, or even blow bubbles right in front of him. On our way out in the gift shop, his Great Aunt Jackie bought him a small plush harbor seal to commemorate his first trip to an aquarium.

We walked around Seward some more and then stopped in at Grandpa and Grandma's vacation house to freshen up before heading back. In the car we played Small World and Ticket to Ride by passing around an iPad. That was fun.

We stopped for some good soup and rolls for dinner at Alyeska on our way. The soup was all you can eat black bean and ham. Perfect after a somewhat drizzly day.

We visited some more and said our goodbyes once we were back at the Evans because we are flying out really early tomorrow morning.

Desmond is all grown. I won't recognize him.
