This morning we didn't rush at all. We woke closer to 7AM and began to take showers. The showers were not very warm, unfortunately. Oh well, breakfast more than made up for it. This is the most impressive spread we've seen yet, and all three of us adults took advantage of the made to order omelets. Yum! Desmond had some eggs, but really seemed to favor the pancake with blueberry syrup.
After breakfast, we came back upstairs to the lounge where Bryan and Bethie could get hot chocolate
. It was steamed milk with a chunk of chocolate on a stir stick. Once they stirred the chocolate in, it looked quite good. Desmond and I had some Rooibos Vanilla tea. Then we snagged a big soft pretzel and walked back to our room. Actually, since we are on the eighth floor with the food, they don't seem to be worried about people taking drinks or snacks back to the room, so it wasn't necessary to be sneaky. I had Desmond hold the pretzel anyway, because he's cutest.
We brushed our teeth, packed our day pack and walked over to the subway. This time Bryan found a more direct route, out the side door of the hotel and through a pedestrian shopping area inside a building that got us much more easily from point A to point B.
We took the Rick Steve's self guided walking tour of the town and saw new town, old town and St. Charles Bridge. Near the beginning of the tour was a playground for Desmond to play on. Again, they had sand to play in, which he loved
. I had him try a little bike merry-go-round with me. But since he couldn't reach the peddles he told me "All done. Too big." and went back to sand play.
There were lots of other tourists while we were out on our walk, but the city is very pretty. It was warm and we were thirsty so we got ourselves a $1-a-scoop cone of gelato. Even Desmond got his own scoop (because they were too small to want to share). My favorite part of the walk was when we crossed the bridge and there were street musicians playing lively music as we walked by. It leant a festival atmosphere and made the crowds not seem so bad.
As we continued up towards the palace on the hill, there were odd sights. Floating monks were one of them. And also in a Thai message place a woman with her feet in a fish tank letting the little fish nibble her dead skin off. I'd never seen anything like that before, although I've had fish nibble my toes, I never would have thought to do it on purpose as part of a beauty regimen!
We parted ways with Bethie to take Desmond back to the hotel for a real nap in his crib
. She continued on to check out the castle/palace.
On our way back through the walkway with the shops, we went shopping and got some bread, Pringles and Oreos to add to our food bag, and Bryan found a cold honey cider for us to try with our PB&J lunch. Desmond enjoyed being out of the stroller in the hotel room while I made us some sandwiches, and then we put him down for a nap and pulled the thick curtains. It took him 45 minutes to quit jabbering/singing to himself about who-knows-what, but he finally settled in and took a good nap.
After his nice long nap Desmond was like a brand new kid. Bethie asked him what the plan should be now that nap was all done:
"Eat food!"
"That's a great plan. I like that plan. What kind of food should we eat?"
After some thought he replied "Pancakes!"
Although we weren't sold on the pancake idea, dinner certainly sounded good. We headed back to an surprising restaurant option we'd seen on our walking tour: TGI Fridays
. We don't have them anywhere around us anymore in the states, so it sounded like a treat to all of us. Bryan said their chicken fingers were just as he remembered. He found a cherry cider to try, and I had a chestnut lemonade. They were both pretty good. Our service was good and the waiter was personable. They gave Desmond a balloon. Overall it was an excellent choice for tonight.
When we left the restaurant it was raining a little bit. The air was still warm though, so we didn't let it influence our plans much. We passed on Desmond playing in the park in the rain and headed strait for ice cream. But this time, we had a particular place in mind: Amorino. We enjoyed strolling through the same route as earlier but now with a little more rain and a lot less tourists.
I liked Prague the most yet during this walk.
As we walked, Desmond's little balloon floated behind him, bobbing up and down and occasionally bumping into someone along the way
. I tried to limit that as much as possible, but it was so cute to see him in the carrier with his balloon riding on his Papa's back. Bethie said she saw a couple ladies who saw Bryan and the balloon from the front and we're giving him strange looks until he walked by and they saw Desmond and his little hand on the string.
We got our flower shaped gelato and enjoyed it there in the shop. Interesting flavors we tried included lemon/basil, cinnamon, and banana. Everything was good, but Desmond was less sure about the banana than he was about his raspberry.
We walked back to the hotel taking the way along the river. It was a very nice walk.

This was a fun day. Rick Steves has a travel app that has built in audio tours for the major sites in Europe. We'd used them before and found they give the same information for free that you'd get on a paid tour. We weren't all set to listen, so we instead took turns reading the tour script. It was a nice way to get the highlights of Prague.

I'm quite curious about chestnut lemonade!
