Welcome to Nantucket!

Nantucket, Massachusetts, United States
We bid Newport a fond farewell and hit the road to Hyannis, MA where we will catch the HyLine high speed ferry to Nantucket where the wedding will be held. We learn that there are two ferry lines that provide service to the Island of Nantucket. Everyone in the family except us has opted to take the earlier ferry. As fate would have it, our daughter is on the same boat as us.

We go to the upstairs deck, to the stern of the boat and wish Hyannis a cheerful goodbye and enjoy the one hour ride to our destination.

The mother and father of the groom, Lisa and Phil, have arranged to rent a home in downtown Nantucket for family to stay during the wedding activities. The "HaPenny House" was chosen because it offers 9 spacious bedrooms, all with private baths and cable TV. They have a brand new-gourmet kitchen and a large dining area that seats 12. We found we could relax on the screened in porch furnished with antique wicker or enjoy the shade of the private brick garden area.

This rambling house was a quite an adventure to peruse. Just when you though you reached the end of a hallway, there was a turn, more rooms and a steep mysterious staircase leading to new parts to be discovered. Although not "turn key" perfect and in need of lots of maintenance and upgrades and, in some cases, basic bedroom furniture, this was a fun venue for family to gather, eat, drink, and generally be merry.

We walked the cobblestone streets, window shopped, looked at the marina and found a dog that had escaped from its owner - which we returned. Later in the day, we walked to Slip 14 for a fabulous open bar and wonderful meal - the rehearsal dinner.
