Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, Spain and Canary Islands
They Said:

The second of our "Route of the White Pueblo" towns was Jerez de la Frontera, a city famous for two things: its horses and its wine . We took the first bus from Arcos, left our bags at the Jerez station, and headed for the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art. Over an hour and six or seven wrong turns later, we arrived and saw the pure-bred Spanish horses in training as Alli reminisced about her riding days. The horses were truly magnificent, and we'd love to show you pictures of them, but Chad was almost thrown into Spanish prison for taking the camera out of the holster. He did manage to sneak off a few shots during our tour of the saddle room and stables where we saw a three-time Olympic horse.

Then it was on to Sandeman, one of the many sherry bodegas (for all the NYC people, it literally means "cellar") located in the city. When the English brought these wines back to London, they mangled the pronunciation of "Jerez" to the point that it became "Sherry." We toured the cellars, saw casks of Amontillado (for all the Poe fans), and even tried on the Sandeman trademark cape and hat. We met a group at our tasting from Columbia, Germany, NYC and almost jumped in the car with them for a night in Cadiz. We decided that was in the opposite direction of where we wanted to go, though, and headed back to the bus station.

When we walked through the automatic doors and got to the ticket window, we asked the attendant where the next few buses were heading. He looked at us like we were nuts, which we might be, but we wound up taking the first bus to some place we've never been...

Happy Birthday Jen!!!
