After breakfast we stopped at Sally’s Cove where we saw lots of lobster traps and buildings where the fishermen kept their nets, etc. and even a fishing dory. We spent a full day at Gros Morne National Park, the second largest national park in Canada.
We stopped at the Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse in Rocky Harbor. It was there that we were served tea and a molasses cookie in the lighthouse by a nice young man who gave us a history of who lived there with their family.
We made a quick stop at the Jenniex House, a museum and gift shop.
We stopped at the Bonne Bay Marine Institute with the aquariums and touch tank and bony spine of a Minke whale.
Had lunch at Neddies Harbour Inn with a beautiful view of Bonne Bay.
We embarked on an afternoon cruise of the Bonne Bay fjord. The cruise was quite an adventure and the crew took turns with the microphone giving us information on what we were seeing. Some of the oldest rock in the world. Saw a bald eagle. We were told that moose were introduced to Newfoundland and now the island or “Rock” as they call it is overpopulated with moose.
They also entertained us with a small band made up by the talking crew members on the boat with renditions of I’se The Boy, etc. We girls danced a jig.
We saw some Minke whales that day too!
We did a hike down to the Cowhead Light House named by Jacque Cartier in 1534. It is not in use anymore.
Headed to our hotel, The Shallow Bay Hotel In Cow Head for dinner.
