Port Aux Choix Day 4

L'Anse-au-Clair, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
We travelled to Port Aux Choix National Historic Site on the west side of Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula. Saw a couple of moose along the way.
We stopped at the Port Au Choix National Historic Site. There are 6000 years of history here and burial grounds. Graves were covered with limestone and the bodies became vacuum sealed. There was land rebounding. John Cabot discovered this area in 1497.
When we stopped at the Information Centre we were given a lecture on the history and how they made seal boots. They ate harp seals and we also ate seal meat from a jar. Yuck! Upon leaving we saw some young moose frolicking in the meadow nearby.
Our bus boarded a ferry to cross The Strait Of Belle Isle to Labrador. There wasn’t too long of a wait for the ferry and we ate lunch on the boat. It was very foggy when we reached land at Labrador.
We arrived at our hotel called Northern Light Inn in L’Anse-Au-Clair established by the French in the early 1700’s. That afternoon we were given a talk at the Gateway to Labrador Visitor Centre. It was formerly St. Andrew’s Church.
We had our crab dinner at the hotel and stayed overnight.
