Scallop Farm/Travel to St. Anthony Day 6

Saint Anthony, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
We left the Northern Light Inn for the scallop Farm. 9000 years ago the archaic people fished Middle Bay.
We visited a scallop farm this morning in Salmon Bay. Owned by a couple that lives there. Scallop farming is very labor intensive and time consuming. They started with 50,000 scallops and in the first year they lost 40% of their crop. The scallops feed off plankton in the water. They fish snow crab, trout and cod. There are 6 tides. The people who fish and live here lease their land from the Quebec government. It rained all morning when we were there but our hosts served us mimosas and I ate a delicious raw scallop and we were served an appetizer of cooked scallops. Their house was cute and cozy but very remote.
We stopped for pictures of the Brador Falls although I didn’t get off the bus because of rain.
We toured the Norte Dame of Lourdes.
We had lunch at The Anchor.
We headed to the ferry to return to the island of Newfoundland.
St. Anthony is a major hub of the Great Northern Peninsula. It was named by Jacques Cartier. We stopped at Fishing Point  which is at the entrance to the main harbor guarded by a circular red striped lighthouse. It’s a major center for icebergs and whale watching. It’s rare to see an iceberg at this time of the year.
We had dinner at Mary Browns in St. Anthony.
We were told that Newfoundland is the 15th largest island in the world.
We spent the night in St. Anthony at the Hotel North.
