Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
Drove to the Salmonid Interpretation center in the morning. It’s one of North America’s largest Atlantic salmon enhancement projects. We saw salmon through the underground windows. This was a fascinating tour and we learned a lot. Had a salmon lunch there. Heard about Caplin or Capelin - related to freshwater smelt. Caplin cavier light orange.
We continued on to Gander. On the bus we watched the documentary “You Are Here “ about the planes diverted to Gander airport during 9/11. This is the small town that welcomed the world. From this the play, “Come From Away” derives.
We toured the North American Aviation Museum in Gander. It was awesome!
We spent the night at Sinbad’s Hotel and Suites - very nice. Could walk to shopping there.
That night we went to the Canadian Legion in Gander for a delicious roast beef dinner. We were surprised to meet some of the key players that welcomed the planes to Gander and are in the doumentary “We Are Here” - Brian, Beulah and Oz. They screeched us in and we’re very entertaining. Had us in stitches with how Newfies talk.
