St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
St. John’s is the most easterly city in North America  and also the oldest city founded by the English in North America. It’s on the Avalon Peninsula. The harbor doesn’t freeze and there’s a narrow entrance to the harbor from the ocean. Hence the narrows. There are many beautiful Victorian homes And lots of jelly bean rows where the homes are brightly painted . The colors resemble jelly beans.
In 1583 Gilbert Harbor Side park was claimed for Queen Elizabeth I.
In 1892 there was a huge fire in St. John’s when a hot pipe was dropped into a bail of hay.
We wandered around downtown St. John’s and then we grabbed lunch at the Yellow Belly Brewery in downtown St. John’s.
We did a guided bus tour of St. John’s. At Pier 17 we saw Mile Zero where Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope for Cancer April 12, 1980. We visited the Cabot Tower which had a magnificent view of  St. John’s Harbor. After that we visited the Governmentn House. We saw lots of pretty flowers.
After that we stopped at the Newman Wine Vaults where we tried their special Newman’s Port. It was delicious!
We drove around the other side of the port and saw a tanker leave.
We’re staying at the Delta Hotel (Marriott) and Carolyn had a surprise for us. Someone came by with a real Newfoundland dog. It was fun and we had a group picture taken as well.
Murray and I ate dinner at the Shamrock City Pub. I had fish and chips and at 7:00 pm there was a guy singing for entertainment. The younger crowd poured in because you could get a 32 oz. beer for the price of a pint.
