This island was one of the highlights of the trip. It's a short ferry ride from Svendborg. It's 20 km long and 4 to 8 km wide, with one main road down the centre and minor roads branching off -- the main road has little traffic and elsewhere there is almost none. There are three villages, one at each end and one in the middle where the ferry docks, but the total population is less than ten thousand. We stayed at a B&B outside the villages where free bicycles were provided. The island is quiet and quaint, and has a couple of nice restaurants and interesting museums. There is even a free bus that runs up and down the main road every half hour or so. Being so close to Copenhagen, I was surprised that such an island exists. The name, by the way, is said to be unpronounceable unless you are Danish.
