Don and Carolyn

Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia
John's cousins Don and Carolyn visited for two weeks in March. We spent a day in Malacca and a couple of days in Singapore, going down by bus and back by train. Terence also took us into the central KL, and another day we went to Batu Caves.

Don was quick to spot a cow on the way in from the airport, but sadly this was just about the only one we saw during the two weeks . You don't see much livestock or cultivation (other than oil palm plantations) in this part of Malaysia. Our visitors were impressed with the heat (Don felt you could just about watch the corn grow in a place like this) and also the stylishness of the shopping malls.

We also went up to Fraser's Hill for a couple of days. From KL this involves a slow ride to the end of the "komuter" train line, followed by a taxi up a steep hill. That road is such that traffic is one-way, switching every hour. It was my first time up there and I liked it, it was much cooler and fresher and less crowded than the Camerons, for example. There are just a few hotels, mostly empty except on weekends, and a few walking trails, mostly not well maintained. It could be a walking haven, and the fact that this potential has not been developed tells you something about the preferences of Malaysians.
