"An Umno vice-president has denied allegations made by a former minister that the party distributed money to gain votes during previous elections. 'Any form of assistance given by the government is not politically-motivated,' said vice-president Xxxxx. 'Certain quarters have misinterpreted it as a ploy to win votes when the real motive of the government is to help the rakyat,' he told reporters.

"Xxxxx, who is also Yyyyy Development Minister, also announced that former Zzzzz Department contract staff who had served the department for more than five years could apply for RM 3000 ($1000) in special financial assistance provided by the government."
