Butterworth Penang , Penang, Malaysia
This has been a really full day.

We walked to the Mall which is only about 5 blocks away,

The City Buses are located there as well, which makes it very nice .

Georgetown, has a free city bus.

this one takes us to the ferry.

the ferry takes you across to Butterworth ,the city ,the fare is about $ .50 round trip for the both

of us.

From the ferry you walk up and down stairs and thru paths for about half a mile to

Butterworths buses, They are not free ,but cheap.

we need bus 604 as it's the only one going to the temple.

This one runs every hour, we have 45 min to wait. Bummer!

we hop on.

we had asked the driver to let us know when to get off.

so he stops the bus, big smile .....points up the road, we get off , and away he goes .

OK......drag out the computer ,find my map.... We are in luck! About 8 blocks straight ahead.

We are off to see a Nine Emperor Gods Temple.

It is the largest Chinese temple in Butterworth.

builtin 1971.

Much different than the Budhist temples in Thailand.

On the ninth month of the Chinese year they have a 9 day celebration.

this place is beautiful!

its entry hall ceiling is covered in Chinese lanterns.

Marble  floors. Carved granite walls.

The doors are amazing. The carved woodwork is incredible .

there are granite pillars that are carved so you can see the entire animal, snake, or dragon.

it is so hard to try to explain these pillars but look at the pictures closely.

The roof is all kinds of designs with dragons and gargoyles.

They are both known protectors.

we spent about an hour wandering around this place.

the visitors book said it would not be what you were expecting.

it wasn't!

totally different then the temples we have seen so far.

really a special place.

so now we need to see if we can find the bus stop since he just dropped us off at the end of a

  road .

as we are walking along, all these Chinese street side cafes are cooking and it smells good.

We had some left over pizza from last night for breakfast, it's about 12:30 and we are starving!

go into the first place it has a huge buffet..... Start looking and the waitress comes over and finally

made us understand this is all vegetarian .

looked good to me but Roy hasn't had anything substantial since last nights dinner. A vegetarian

lunch would last till the next cafe.

we decide to just find the next cafe.

Found one!

We stopped by and a sweet little old Chinese lady , somewhere between 90 and 120 yrs old

  comes over with a

huge smile and starts talking very fast in broken English .

she wants to know where we are from,,,,where we are going. What do we want to eat (we don't

know... The menu it's all in Chinese) she keeps up the conversation , and we keep nodding our

  heads

and I guess we ordered...I did hear

something about we fix and you try... And soon food appeared on the table. So we ate.

Not a clue what it was.. But it was good.

Pay for whatever we ate and off we go to find our bus stop.

We ask a few people and get a general idea...sorta!

See the bus coming and we are about 2 blocks to far... Start running and he just waves and

keeps on going ... Grrrrrr now we have an hour to wait. We seen which way he went so we head

that direction to find the bus stop.

hey! Here he comes headed the opposite way! He pulls into the bus stop with one very big smile

and a wave, he waits while we try to cross a very busy street.

Headed home.

He takes us back to the bus station , then up stairs , down stairs, thru pathways and back to the

  ferry.

Ride the the ferry over to Georgetown, walk aways to find our free bus at the station , then to

  the Mall station .

Then our walk home

whew what a day .
