Georgetown Penang , Penang, Malaysia
"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.

Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent

Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.

Education will not; the world is full of educated failures.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."

 Calvin Coolidge

Roy has determined this is his new favorite saying.

it serves us very well.

We have no talent, no genius,no phd, but the one thing we do have is

  persistence and determination.

We may go in circles for awhile but we always find our goal.

not that we had to do much back tracking today, but we have done our share .

Malaysia seems a bit slower in catching technology .

In Thailand when I take a picture it is marked with the name of the place.

so when we got to Malaysia I thought my brand new mini pad was on the fritz

because nothing was being marked.

Not So!

Went to computer store in a couple of places and they both said the same thing.

only Cities and Towns and Very important places will show up named.

Internet in Thailand is really cheap, but not so here.

we also really like the food in Thailand where it's more bland here .

The street stalls here are almost the same things ,not really a lot of variety .

just more of the same things.

There are vegetable markets all over, yet nothing but fried rice, noodle dishes,

and soups. Very light on vegetables when you order any of these.

just some observations.

ok , so we get off the bus at the Botanical garden.

We are greeted by the cutest monkeys,

the baby's are holding on tight, adorable.

this is not really what I would consider a garden.

Its lovely but very few flowers.

the paths meander up hills , around mounds, and down valleys.

it is a lovely jungle of trees , bushes, and vines,

the landscaping is restful , the shade you linger in and when a breeze comes up

pure bliss!

It is hot and humid today .

a Dr would be hard pressed to find one toxin. In me .

This girl has learned how to sweat. Not the feminine prespire that you daintily pat off your

brow. Or the man size that you wipe with a kerchief. This is giant size not one toxin left ,drenched!

forget trying to keep your hair looking nice. I wear the wet and frizzy look.

a fan , electric or hand powered has become my best friend.

these shade trees I have really fallen in love with. They are beautiful and have I mentioned ,

  shady? Ahh wonderful shade,

on on the tail of the monkeys. These little guys are known to be mischievous. And these live up to

  their fame.

this pretty lady had on a lovely dress . Very bright colors and flapping in the wind as she walked

  by.

Well, first off they were attracted I think by the color, but as she kept walking ,they seen it swaying

  back and forth.

She seen the one monkey run in front of her but she didn't see all the others. One fella grabbed

a handful of skirt a didn't want to let go. She's struggling trying to get her skirt back and her

husband is trying to keep the other monkeys from coming any closer.

the onlookers thought it was a very interesting and funny show.

however the lady had no sense of humor. When the guards finally came over and chased the

monkeys away , the lady and her fella turned around and left the park.

As we left the park there was a little shop, Roy wanted some chips I noticed ice cream! Cold. Ice

Cream. I grab a bar and Roy goes to pay, many stores don't want you to eat ice cream inside

because it melts quickly, so I step outside . I see a monkey RUN down a tree and head for me.

now, I may not be the brightest kid on the block but I seen what they did to the lady with the bright

dress. I jump back in the store just as the owner comes running out with a broom. I'm laughing

and she smiles and tells me , the monkeys love ice cream.

Our next stop is a temple I saw from the road

kek Lok Si is the largest and finest Buddhist temple in Southeast Asia.

7 stories to top of pagoda of Rama VI.

The Kuan Yin the goddess of mercy is 30.2 m or 100 ft.

there are 10000 statues of alabaster and bronze of Buddha.

i think I read there are 367 stairs to view everything.

they have a small cable car that draws you up to the top to

see the Goddess of Mercy. We get half way up and the car lurches to

a stop. Everyone's looking around wondering what's going on . The car just sits there.

of course Roy being ,Roy had just before mentioned they use 6 cables to draw the car up so if

three broke it would still hold

We waited about 10 minutes and I wondered aloud if we could open

the door and just walk up the steps.

I guess the oriental guy thought that was a great idea.

He put his fingers in the door and pulled it open. What's a few more steps when you already

came up 367? So up we go.

Apparently a lady pushed an emergency stop button and didn't realize it.

so another wonderful day

hope you enjoy the pictures
