Another cable car and Hollywood...

Brasov, Transylvania, Romania
After leaving Viscri we made our way onto Brasov, which is served by long distance trains, however once again we had the luxury of private transport.

A large part of the city consists of concrete suburbs but as a tourist you have to stay in the old town . I was mortified to find a KFC next to our hotel which is on the main square... It reminded me of visiting the pyramids and how touristy it was there. However once the crowds had dispensed following the MTV music awards; which if we had known about would have been fantastic as our room looks out onto the square and directly at the stage; the town becomes much more authentic.

The old town sits below Mount Tampa which also unfortunately has it's own tourist twist, with a Hollywood 'Brasov' sign that looks down onto the town.

Continuing the theme, the Saxon Guilds populated a significant part of the town in the 16th century, with numerous churches and other historical buildings, a walk round the town Walls is a great way to check out the offerings - don't miss the climb up to the Black Tower which offers the best view of Mount Tampa.

We took the cable car up to Mount Tampa, but walked the long switchback (24 of them) ridden path back down (about an hour).

To finish the day, dinner in a cellar, definitely a great place to go if you fancy Hungarian or Mexican food - a strange mix but absolutely yum! Bella Muzica - book a booth for a romantic meal :).
