Sinaia, Bucharest and over the border

Bucharest, Romania
Sinaia

On Monday we were back up in the mountains once again, in Sinaia, which is also known for it's ski resort in the winter season . There is no snow here now but the climate is much cooler than where we have come from.

Our departure on Tuesday would be an early start so we spent the afternoon strolling up to Peles Castle and the monastery.

On a Monday everything is closed but the castle is spectacular from the outside and has the backdrop of the Carpathian Mountain range so the walk up there and around is totally worth it.

The castle took almost 40 years to complete and sadly the king died just before it was finished. I personally think it is better than Bran castle both in terms of the architecture and the location plus it's not touristy.

Bucharest

Tuesday was another travel day with a short stop in Bucharest. Despite being the capital city this us not somewhere that I was particularly bothered about visiting - I'm not a city girl and already miss the remoteness of the mountain towns that we have stayed at whilst in Romania.

The one and inky historical landmark that I wanted to see is the Palace of Parliament, also known as the people's palace. It us supposed to be the largest palace in the world and the second largest building after the Pentagon. The area directly surrounding the palace was once a rich area but most if the apartments are now unoccupied, although would probably make a good investment as holiday lets given the location.

We cross the border shortly and say goodbye to Romania :(.
