Helpful locals

Kuala Lipis, Pahang, Malaysia
Several people stopped to help us here, a guy at the station offering directions to our hotel, a couple stopping their car along the road to offer us transport and another bloke in a car with tour suggestions for the next day.

However, from a food perspective this town was no different to most of Malaysia, with nowhere to eat during Ramadan . We stumbled across the Ramadan market and a murtabak stall. So hid out in a deserted area round the back to eat our supplies in secret, whilst the locals stocked up to eat after sunset.

Everything was also shut as it was a Sunday, so we wandered around looking for photo opportunities. The town is largely centred around one main street and some traditional style shop houses, but there is little else to see unless you want to walk up hill out of town or take a tour to the nearby jungle.

A very different place greeted us on Monday morning, with shops selling a variety of wares, but there was still nowhere to eat so we had to resort to a pot noodle from 7/11 ahead of the bus and then boat journey.

The make shift tourist office at the station turned out to be a travel agent, but he was very helpful with bus info and calling the boatman at Kuala Tembeling to delay a boat for us as the bus arrival times don't coincide with boat departures!
