Yet another place we hadn't planned to stay. Due to not being able to get the bus from Kuantan (last destination) to Mersing in the morning, which was most likely due to the upcoming Hari Raya holiday period, we arrived here in time for the last ferry, or so we thought.
 
The ferries from Mersing to Tioman island only run at high tide and even with insider info, our timings were out, and so we had to spend a night in town . Fortunately it's reasonably cheap here and despite being Ramadan there are restaurants serving food (Indian and Chinese). Plus we have working internet for once... 

If you find yourself in a similar position, or even plan to stay here, there are numerous hotels along the main road which are just a short walk between the bus station and the jetty, so conveniently located... just take your pick.
